Death is a natural part of life. Every living thing in the world dies at some point. However, for humans, it is a very painful thing. In fact, it’s so frustrating that there are still many who consider it taboo.

You may be going through some tough times right now. A relative or friend may be suffering from a terminal illness and, at any moment from now, will die. As a loved one, you must prepare yourself for the inevitable.

Although there is no set way to deal with a potential loss, there are a few things you can do to soften the blow:

1. Don’t treat them differently. Many people tend to change their ways around someone who is dying. Maybe because they want to show their great love and devotion. However, it is actually recommended not to treat death differently, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t make them feel as comfortable and happy as possible. The one thing they’re looking for in the last chapter of their lives is companionship and nurturing, not really a lot of special attention and sacrifice on your end.

2. Give them time to be alone. Many dying patients want to give themselves time to be alone with their thoughts. They may also be trying their best to come to terms with their deaths. As much as you want to be with them all the time, it is only right that you respect their wishes. This is how you can make them very comfortable. Moreover, when you see the fine for the thought of dying, it becomes easier for you to accept the impending operation.

3. Be with someone. Usually, you want to act tough and assertive when you are with the dying. That’s really good. The dying person will certainly want to see that you can definitely handle the potential loss. However, don’t keep everything to yourself. If you feel ready to explode, run and talk to someone. It could be a friend or a family member. Pour out your hearts. By doing this, the grieving process begins, and the acceptance of the loss will be much faster. Moreover, you can gain renewed strength from others.

4. Make use of affirmations. Subliminal affirmations or messages can be used to help deal with a lot of personal issues, including loss and grief. Subliminal messages, when used judiciously, can help change certain perspectives, especially if they are negative. You can read the following lines every morning:

I accept the death process.

I admit to sad myself.

I appreciate the memories.

I value my life, and it moves me forward.

At first the words may seem hollow to you, but as they penetrate into your subconscious mind, you will slowly learn to accept them as facts. When you are depressed or lonely, you can tap into your subconscious mind and remind you of these subliminal messages.
